Google is Cleaning the House
Ready for some summer cleaning? Google has taken some virtual Windex to their directories with their latest update. The update to Google’s data centers over this past weekend is leaving many in shock, including webmasters and website owners. Of course updates always mean changes, but where most updates are like straightening the house, this weekend’s sought to hunt down every virtual dust-bunny and obliterate it.
Certain changes will shift the way Google ranks pages, such as placing a “0” value on a vast number of directories, meaning that sites can no longer use directories as a quick solution to obtaining good ranking positions.
Adsense accounts created for websites that only exist for Adsense are being shut down, which is good news for PPC (pay-per-click) advertisers. Imagine your ad on a page with virtually no content of any value…it would be a waste of space, because there isn’t any value in that page and you won’t see any appreciable results.
What needs to happen in order for content network advertising to be credible once more? Google needs to clean out parked domains, websites and any error pages. All in all, what do these changes mean for website owners and webmasters? Perhaps a little more leg work, but with far stronger, and more profitable results.
Obtaining a strong PR (Page Rank) or placing ads on reliable sites may require more time and research on the front side, but those values, those ads, will be worth more in the long run, because they’ll need to be merit based. Just like cleaning your home, the more time and more attention to detail you afford the task, the cleaner your home will be.
